East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Ryan Baldock of Cornwall Central High School (New Windsor, NY) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 8 of the 2021 season. The Cornwall Central Dragons ended the regular season 8-0 with a 37-0 victory over Valley Central on Friday night. They allowed just 27 total points to be scored against them in their eight games, while scoring 274 points against their opponents, and are now looking forward to the playoffs.
The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local youth football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and his overall community involvement.
In recognition of Coach Baldock's selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school's football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. He will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Joe Judge.
Coach Baldock has led the Dragons to a 27-1 record since taking over as head coach in 2019, continuing an amazing legacy of winning football at the school. He was named the Section 9 Class A Coach of the Year in his first year, as Cornwall Central were the Section 9 Class A champions in 2019 and 2020, and won the New York State Class A Championship in 2019. The Cornwall High School Football program has won 10 consecutive Section 9 Championships, and 13 out of last 15. They have not lost to a Section 9 Class A opponent since 2010, and are defending back-to-back NYS Champions (2018 and 2019), as there were no state playoffs in 2020 due to pandemic.
Coach Baldock previously served as the head coach at Monroe-Woodbury High School from 2016-2018, and at Johnstown Sr. High School in 2015, and has a career record of 52-14 in his seven seasons as a head coach. He currently serves as a physical education teacher at Cornwall Central High School.
"On behalf of the Cornwall football program and Cornwall School District I would like to say thank you to the NY Giants organization and Gatorade for this tremendous honor," said Baldock. "Recognition of this magnitude can only be achieved through a collection of efforts and would not be possible without the contributions of our team personnel, assistant coaches and especially our players."
